A FAIR day
A spur-of-the-moment trip from brother Matt and his wife Lisa, who live in Chicago, meant we had to show them the finer side of Minnesota. Which is fried pickles. At the famous Minnesota State Fair.
I do believe the entire state of Minnesota, and maybe half of Wisconsin, decided to attend the fair with us. It was jammed with people. And yes, they were all eating deep-fried food on a stick: deep-fried candy bars, chocolate-covered bacon, and alligator.
(This is not fried alligator, despite the facial expression. It is a mini donut.)
Highlights: *Watching a chick peck its way out of an egg, and seeing many very newborn farm animals.
*Taking the sky-ride across the entire fair grounds, if just to see the two hundred people crowded around the cookie stand.
*Eating the fried pickles. They really were that good.
*Spending time with the fabulous Matt/Lisa combo, who are amazing and brilliant and funny and will someday soon be world famous. And when they are, we can lay claim to giving them their first taste of fried cheese curd.
