A (surprise) finish

April 19, 2011

This past weekend the Lewis family was initiated into the Pinewood Derby. Our man Jackson walked away with a second place trophy and the price for most colorful, for which he was awarded a chocolate bar “the size of an iPad.” (His words.)

Seth and I calculated this one out: We have thirteen successive years of Pinewood Derbies in our future. All the boys have drafted plans for their future cars. The family has gone derby crazy.

But I think this year will be forever remembered for the way our jaws dropped when that humble red car shot out in front, again and again.

Not a bad way to start. Not a bad way to finish.

(Apologies for the poor photos taken in low lighting!)

Jackson, that is a snazzy looking car! Have you already eaten the giant chocolate bar? And to the entire Lewis family: may your next 13 years of producing winners be equally fruitful.
